Reasons Real Estate Agents Love Their Careers

Having recruited and hired hundreds of real estate agents over the years, I can honestly say that there are many, many reasons that people get into the field of real estate. For many (and probably even a stereotype), it is a career for stay-at-home parents after the kids start school. For others, they are attracted to the notion of seeing homes, being involved in the staging, the advertising, and the promotion of real estate. But there are tons of other reasons that real estate is an amazing career. Read on to learn 3 reasons that real estate agents love their careers.

3 Reasons Real Estate Agents Love Their Careers

  1. The sky’s the limit. Forget about all the adages that sound overdone, it is absolutely true that when it comes to real estate earnings, the sky’s the limit. There is absolutely no glass ceiling. It doesn’t matter whether you work for a large international company or a boutique independent brokerage, there is no cap on the amount you can earn. Your business, your marketing, and the seeds that you sow through prospecting can lead to infinite possibilities when it comes to real estate sales and your income.
  2. You are your own boss. While it is true that most people need to hang their license under a broker, for most of the United States, the real estate agent is an independent contractor. So, except for the office requirements, you are your own boss. You make your own hours. You decide on the best approach to your business—your advertising, your prospecting, your marketing, and your investing.
  3. The autonomy is great. When you work for a big company, there are lots of factors that influence when and if a change can be made. That’s not the same for real estate. If there is something that is working, you can quickly decide to do more of it. If there is something that isn’t working, you can dump it without having lots of meetings or casting votes among individuals on a large team. With technology changing and so much going on globally, it is nice to have the flexibility to make changes any time that you want.

So many consumers are under the false impression that real estate agents drive fancy cars and network and see beautiful homes all day. Of course, we do a little of that, but selling real estate is hard work. It is being available 24/7 and being willing to put in the time and effort. But, when you do, it is a great experience and the sky’s the limit!
