When it comes to real estate, Instagram is definitely somewhere that you want to be. But, what should you post? How often should you post? And, how can you create engagement? All of these questions and many more are probably at the top of your list—especially if you are sales type that prefers interpersonal face-to-face engagement as opposed to the online thing.
My number one tip for posting on Instagram is to be mindful or intentional and strategize (well, I guess that’s two tips). Not everyone is going to be looking at your page in the same way and not everyone will respond to the same types of content. To that end, it is important to vary your content in a way that is intentional and strategic.
Here are 6 content ideas for real estate agents:
Listings / Events / Promotion
This is a pretty obvious suggestion, but you should definitely post your latest listings, open houses, or home tours. This way, your followers will know what you have to offer. You can also include testimonials and reviews, but remember that Instagram users prefer visual content over text.
Content Collaboration
Another way to promote yourself is by collaborating with your local community. This can include working with other businesses or thought leaders. By doing this, you can introduce yourself to their networks and provide unique content to your followers. For example, partner with your local doughnut shop or hamburger joint. Or consider doing shared videos with a local real estate lender. In that way, you can leverage their followers to increase your network.
Real Estate Brokerage Content
If you work for a real estate brokerage, then people should know it. As with many other professions, people prefer to work with others who are proud of their jobs. In this case, being an agent for a particular company provides social proof and credibility. It also means that your brokerage might be able to offer you content that you can share as is to lessen your content creation load.
Strategic Content
Next, consider posting strategic content based on your market. For instance, if you primarily work with luxury residences then you might showcase the latest luxury furnishings. Or, if you speak a second language such as Spanish, you can share information of value to that particular sub-group of followers.
Personal Passions and Hobbies
In this case, you’re talking about your hobbies. Are you a car collector? Share info about that. Play on a sports team or like to volunteer for a local agency or charity, share that too! Creating posts about these things shows potential clients that you’re human and creates different ways to connect with them.
Holiday Content
Finally, there’s always holiday content. People love to see how you and your family celebrate holidays. And for holidays which you don’t celebrate, it means a lot when you reach out anyway. Make a list of all of the holidays or special days for which you are going to plan a special post, and then go for it! (By the way, National Taco Day 2022 in the United States is October 4th, so you can start with a post about that, if nothing else.)
Finally… Don’t Forget Your Hashtags
One of the common ways people find new content creators on Instagram is by discovering their content. This can happen through a friend’s feed, but it also results from organic search. So, always add hashtags to your posts.
There is so much to learn about how to maximize our potential with Instagram. Not only is creating strategic content important, but there are also tips on how to create good visual content such as Reels and Stories, among other things. Start with a good plan, and then you can flesh it out down the road. #happyposting
