5 Motivational Books That Will Change Your Life

Motivational Books That Will Change Your Life

If you know me personally or if you have been following the blog long enough, you may know that I love to read (and to listen to audio books), which in 2021 is pretty much the same thing. I’ve read so many inspirational books by thought leaders that it is almost impossible to keep track. Bit, if you are like me and you haven’t been vaccinated yet or you are still spending a lot more time at home than working in the field, you may need some additional inspiration or motivation to get through your day.

In this short post, I thought I would share 5 of my favorite motivational books, and because it is Women’s History Month, I thought it would be fun to select books authored by women leaders. Whether you are a real estate agent or a broker or some other sort of real estate affiliate, sometimes it helps to read books from outside the field to get new and different ideas and perspectives on they way you are currently doing things; one way I’ve found to do this is through reading.

So, without further ado, here they are:

5 Motivational Books That Will Change Your Life

Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown

Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown offers a four-step process to find true belonging through authenticity, bravery, trust, and vulnerability since it’s mostly about learning to stand alone rather than trying to fit in. This is particularly helpful for those seeking perspective in the field of real estate where many agents are all typically using the same tools to get the same results. Brown is well-known for her books on such topics as courage, vulnerability, leadership, and empathy among others. She also has a Netflix special, “The Call to Courage” and famous TED Talk.

I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai

I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai about Malala’s upbringing in Pakistan and survival of an assassination attempt by the Taliban—all because she was a girl seeking an education. Malala believes in lifting girls up through education and shares her story in this wonderful book. You may know her because she was the youngest person to ever win the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 17. If you sometimes feel down and out because you lost a listing or your friend selected another agent and not you, when you hear this story, you may realize how much more difficult others have it. It is such a wonderful read.

The Moment of Lift, Melinda Gates

The Moment of Lift, Melinda Gates (wife of Bill Gates) pulls everything she’s learned together to come up with one major takeaway: When we lift up women and girls everywhere, it benefits us all. Before you dismiss this as another social justice do-gooder book by a wealthy white woman, don’t. You will see ways to implement her ideas in your own business and in your relations with those around you.

Year of Yes by Shonda Rimes

Year of Yes by Shonda Rimes details famous TV-show creator Shonda Rhimes’s change from introversion to socialite by saying “Yes” to anything for a full year and how she was finally able to face her fears and start loving herself. Of the books on this list, this might be the one I related to the most. As someone who often says no to opportunities, I saw the value in starting to say yes to more networking events and even meetings with sales vendors—all in an effort to be a better me.

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis inspires women to take their lives into their own hands and make their dreams happen, no matter how discouraged they may feel at the moment. To me, this was kind of like Eat, Pray, Love. So if you saw that movie or read that book, you see the similarities. Nobody is perfect; one of the most valuable things you can do to enhance your career is to take a step and accomplish something each and every day.
